Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a difficult time. I've always had trouble with my back, and the weight gain threw me off balance and made me experience a lot of pain. I was so uncomfortable all of the time that I couldn't even get through a day of work. I finally decided to go see a chiropractor that a coworker recommended. I was very nervous -- I'd heard about having your back cracked, and it sounded scary to me. The chiropractor did manipulate my back, but he was very gentle, and it didn't hurt at all. In fact, it helped. So did the massage table in his office. Without that care, I don't know how I would have gotten through the rest of the pregnancy. I decided to start a blog to help other women learn how chiropractic care can help them through a difficult pregnancy.

The Benefits Of Seeing A Chiropractor Throughout Your Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, of course it is important to take care of yourself so your body can better take care of your growing little one. This means eating a healthy diet, getting some exercise, and keeping up with your OBGYN visits. However, there is another type of care you may want to consider adding to your pregnancy health routine: chiropractic care. The following are a few benefits of visiting a chiropractor throughout your pregnancy. 

Less Back Pain

As your baby grows and your abdomen grows larger and larger, it starts pulling forward on your spine. This is why so many pregnant ladies struggle with lower back pain. A chiropractor can adjust your spine in order to take some of this pressure off of it. This should help ease your back pain, making you more comfortable overall.

Better Sleep

Falling asleep and staying asleep while pregnant can be tough. Not only can your growing abdomen make it hard to find a comfortable position, but changes in hormone levels can mess with your circadian rhythm. Seeing the chiropractor can encourage better, more restful sleep. You'll have an easier time finding a comfortable position when you're feeling loose and limber after an adjustment. Adjusting the spine can also relieve pressure on certain nerves related to hormone production, which also helps with sleep.

Better Pelvic Alignment

As a part of your adjustments, your chiropractor will typically make sure your pelvis is properly aligned. This can help you more easily get into a comfortable position to deliver your baby. You may have shorter and less painful labor when your pelvis has been properly aligned by a chiropractor. You may even be able to use fewer pain medications during delivery.

Chiropractors who regularly work with pregnant women often perform something called the Webster Technique. This technique involves adjusting the pelvis and hips in such a way as to create more space in your abdominal cavity. This means your baby will have more space to move around. As such, your baby may be more comfortable, and when your baby is more comfortable, you have an easier time getting good rest.
